To me this song is about a cowboy who has chosen the life of rodeo. In rodeo, guys (and girls) travel around and often "meet" new people. I think this guy met a great girl at a rodeo but instead of pursuing his feelings, he went for the rodeo. As he is on his way, he realizes what a great thing he could have had and he is hesitating the rodeo or her. He is getting older and rodeo wont be around forever, but this girl very well could be. Its about running from what you are feeling for someone.
