It's about a soldier away from home talking about/to his lover back home and how he misses her and how his love hasn't died.
But then again its also been said about the taking his life and wanting to be closer to his lover who could be dead.
Im not to sure myself but in the end line it says 'After all this time I'm coming home to you' that is what makes me think it is what I had first thought.
Either way it's a powerful song.
