well this is what i thought when i first heard the song (although could be very wrong)
a group plan to rob a post office
they rope in a "rawhide" to there group, he is reluctant to do so but feels he has to prove himself "is it all to do with pride?"
the first verse starts off with the robbery of the post office, where the postmaster's son is threatened and tells the group to take what they want because he dislikes violence
the second verse goes back to the group planning the robbery, plans of mice and men, flashing forward to them getting in the car to the post office.. the rawhide is rushed into the decision and teased "don't want to take the heat"
the motorways fly by... he doesnt want to get to the post office, and the journey seems to go so quickly
lily allen narrates the girl in love with the "rawhide", she tries to save the man she loves by stopping him joining the group and taking part in the robbery, but he lies to her and goes anyway feeling he needs to prove himself
yeah, that's about it. it could all be very wrong, but as song interpretations go, i quite like it.
