On one level, it makes me think of my background, where I grew up, my surroundings, the people around me,a nd how I always wanted a little bit more than a job behind a till doing what everyone else did, becoming nothing.
I don't mean this in a snobbish kind of way, it's just me being dissatisfied with the monatarism I saw in a way.
Another thing is the verse "I fall into a trance at the supermarket..." is this people being lemmings, taken in by all the advertising and whatever the media/newspaper tell them without thinking for themselves. The amount of times I've noticed that in people..... it's quite scary really.
All in all, I think it's about losing your identity to the system.

One of my favourite songs.
