This song could be about the decreasing amount of oil at our disposal, the "wells" being the oil rigs which only fin emptiness, hence the echoes, ...although that is kind of a long shot, especially becuase this song was released in '91. It could just be about problems which exist through out the world which are more convenient to ignore and therefore the are by most. "Listen To The Battle Cries Of A Race That Knows It's Dying" , species are becoming extinct and so will humans if ghosts like global warming exist. whether these ideas reflect my opinions aside, thats what i believe this song is about.
COC are from my home state of NC. It's good to see them do well. Anyways, when I was younger there was a man (somewhat nearby) that murdered two little boys (kin even) and threw their bodies in a well in the NC mountains where it was practically impossible to find them. Even though everyone suspected it he wasn't prosecuted because over the mountainous expanse they were never found. Until many many years later in which their murderer had already passed away himself. This fact was not only known statewide but was a big case that eerily creeped everyone here...
