Ugh...why do the comments on this song, no matter the artist, always contradict the song itself?
I am a Christian. I believe in Heaven, in Hell, and in God.
I do not, however, feel the need to berate people that do not agree with my beliefs. If someone wants to believe something else, that is their own choice, and I respect it. All I ask is that people treat me the same.
Being a Christian, I have no problem with the first verse.
Why? Because I don't believe the verse is saying that Religion is wrong and stupid. I believe it is stating the issue of conflict between religion. As in, the wars in the East, fought entirely over religious beliefs, what if there were no religion, and all the people currently killing each other in the east had nothing to fight over, and could live peacefully together?
This, in my opinion, isn't saying it is the fault of Religion, or that it is a bad thing, just saying..what would it be like, if everyone just respected each other and stopped fighting?
So, I ask you, next time, instead of getting into a pointless argument about religion over this song, think about it a bit more thoroughly. Of course, if you still dislike this song, if only for your own interpretation of the first verse, then that is your right. However, I personally think it is disrespectful to John Lennon by breaking out into a religious fight on a web page about this song.
