I adore this band, they really are amazing. :) Saw them live and it was such an amazing night.
As for the meaning, to me, it seems to be about throwing things away or wasting what they've got.
The lines:
"And all these years and years I've taken
Oh I'd scratch it with my nails"
Is like saying that they're trying to claw back what's gone and what they can no longer get back.
The line "And this white line fever isn't phasing me" could be a drug reference aswell.
