okay i agree with radiogoogoo. i think it's from james' perspective. i think it's about him not being able to trust anyone and it's made him pessimistic and cynical, and all of that is him trying to hide the hurt and emotions behind it, from being betrayed by vesper, someone who he loved and trusted. so being betrayed by her has made him that much more guarded.
"Someone that you think that you can trust is just another way to die." is referring to vesper i think.

is also i think referring to james spending the whole movie searching for revenge and doing anything he can to find out if vesper really loved him or was only pretending to save her other boyfriend. he's trying to find a way to put vesper to rest, but he needs to find out about the people who blackmailed vesper anddd her old boyfriend in order to do so. and he does in the end of the movie. so sad for james
