I think the word "divine" is to be taken lterally. There is a theory that God divided itself into imperfect fragments (us), so that the fragments were free to experience the details of creation in a way a complete and undivided God could not. I think that's what Tanya (the hippy) is alluding to here: the necessary divide between her and her lover is the divine gift of being able to reach out and touch him.
