Big League is a song about George Pelawa. On the day of a concert, Tom was approached by a man who mention that his son was a big fan of Tom's music. When Tom asked if this man's son would be at the concert that night the fellow told him that his son had recently been killed in a car accident. Pelawa had been killed by a sleepy semi truck driver whose vechile had veered into the wrong lane of trafic. After hearing the story of Pelawa, Tom was inspired and wrote a the song Big League about the 1986 first round draft choice of the Calgary Flames who was playing hockey on a big US team (North Dakota) on a scholarship.

The song also has a eerie similarity to the tragic passing of Vancouver Canuck Luc Bourdon. As a result, Cochrane played Big League at Bourdon's memorial before the season opener of the Canuck's 08/09 season.
