Ofcourse everyone who gave a rendition of the intention of the writer has more or less spoken a good guess. Truth is, as described by the 3 minute industrial instrumental, it's late at night, tv's on mumbling the news, and a slow melody painting the writers thoughts after puting his child to sleep, preserving his/her innocence, and preventing the atrocity and the disastrous disaccord of the recent reality, on a global basis, from reaching his/her thoughts and emotions.
It's, nevertheless, important to note, though, that the writer also focuses on the news presenter on the 2nd verse. he, even, directly asks "how can you say it with such ease?". It is unimaginable, ubsurd, and unheardof how one can speak this tragedies that disgrace man and human civilization, with such ease. It's implied, also, through the last two lines of verse 2, that egoism, and personal benefit, outbeat the will to serve the common good.
