"At the bottom of a wishing well
Was a secret that we dare not speak out loud
Holding hands in a powerful stare
Wearing badges those kept to show we care"
this is my favorite part of the whole song. i am kind of known for over analyzing things, but its fun so i will do it.
the idea of the bottom of a wishing well is so awesome. i love it. its like, everyone is wishfully hoping for things, relying on something inconsequential to make it happen for them. but at the bottom, where no one sees, are the people who see the truth behind it. the ugly, non tourist version of a wishing well where there are no cute shingles and painted wood. its where the water corrodes the cobble stones and its dark and scary and full of death, from which there is no escape. there is money, but it doesn't matter because you can't get out again. really cool image for me...
And the secret that they dare not speak out loud could be anything. something that happened at the bottom of the wishing well, something that was found, but the "dare not speak out loud" is good because the thing about a well, is that you can cry out for help and no one will hear you, but a tiny whisper is amplified INSIDE it. holding hands in a powerful stare is a great phrase that could symbolize love. As if the stare communicates the secret without speaking. as for the badges i have no clue, but it seems like they could be metaphorical. not actual badges, just a term for a mark or something, non physical characteristic that they have that sets them apart from those who do not know the secret, or do not care because all they see (or want to see) is the surface of the well house, and not what is at the bottom
