Parablade, I disagree. Even with it being acceptable as an opinion. The things Jay-Z says are 110% true in a way that hardly anyone thinks. He clearly makes you see the situation through his eyes in a light that many people most likely do not see. In that is art, and he did well as an artist. I'm a fan of rap and I'm a fan of rock. As someone who has 0 discrimination in genres and sees music as an art and nothing else, I can say with no cloud of judgment his verse is very commendable.
I do not know if it's some sort of territorial pride, ignorance, or just a lack of common respect that blinds you. Either way, it's not my loss. You may disagree if you want, but I'm sure that I'm right indubitably. Ignorance is bliss and you are entitled to your opinion. And I'm entitled to tell you you're wrong.
I'm sorry Bell, I disagree with you. Either way it's still an opinion, just because you may see the art of the rap other may not. But however, Honestly I think that the rap is catchy and has a great use of Oximorons, but the issue to me is that to me it feels somewhat out of place. It doesn't fit in with the theme or meaning that Coldplay is trying to give with this song. I think this verse with Jay-Z would fit greatly into one of his original works, with his style and type of music, this song...

I think this verse with Jay-Z would fit greatly into one of his original works, with his style and type of music, this song is the same way I feel he failed with his work with Linkin Park. The only one I felt it worked with Linkin Park which was in my view almost failure was that Linkin Park did incorporate rap. As Jay-Z talks about Crime, pimps ect. Linkin Park talks about Trying to be someone you aren't in Lying From you/Dirt off your Shoulders, these two topics don't match and ruin both meanings of the song. That's what is happening in this song. This song is about being lost, while Jay-Z talks about the Civil Rights Movement. Coldplay's fans could care less about this since they are British. They had no Civil Rights Movement. The Jesus topic does make sense however along with the others. These songs don't match. Point. Also, why does Jay-Z always have to put "nigga" in every song he writes? It contradicts himself? Whatever, that's off topic.
But anyways, besides my reply to Bell, this website really isn't about reviews guys. It's about song meanings. Stop reviewing every song please.
This post is laughable. The only ignorance here is you trying to pass off your ridiculous opinions as undisputable facts. Unfortunately for you all art is subjective, there is no definitive consensus on what is "good" and what is "bad" art. Your confrontational attitude is pointless and uncalled for, saying I am "ignorant" or have a "lack of respect" simply because I don't agree with you is absurd. Clearly it is you who has a lack of respect for verbally assaulting anyone who doesn't share your narrow-minded views on artistic expression.

@ Parablade you have a valid point saying that you didnt think Jayz was a good addition to this song but you just gave your opinion you never really gave a valid reason outside that it added nothing. I respect your opinion but i do think your wrong. You dont think it added nothing while i think it added depth to this song that i felt it lacked. It also made it easier to understand the theme of the song which felt vague. Read the Lyrics again while listening to this version a couple times. Coldplay add him for a...

Coldplay add him for a reason and not to just be more mainstream they dont seem the type to do that.
And the question is, "Is to have had and lost
Better than not having at all?"
Because I'm... LOST+
