Probably not John Henry's intention, but the section
"I'll make light of this night and night of this day//It's what I tell myself to sleep when I dream myself awake"
took on personal significance to me. In the past 2 years I started having night-time hallucinations due to REM disturbances pretty regularly. I literally "dream myself awake," and I sit there all night thinking about the "turbulence" of the waking nightmares. The whole experience is rather disturbing, so I "make light" of it and have to sleep in the next day.

In other words, John Henry is my prophet.
