i always took it in more metaphorically.
i don't think it necessarily has to do with the summer season or the time periods during the day, but more with the various relationship stages people undego in their associations.
summer; the relationship/friendship/acquaintance itself
morning; the beginning, the meeting of a new person
noon; the middle, the point in which the relationship is neutral/comfortable/enjoyable
night; the climax, the point where its gotten as pleasant as its going to get before receeding back into nothing special
