This is a great song. It is about a man who has commited a murder and a preacher who seeks to save his soul. It's a good story but I can't figure out the ending; I find it hard to interperate the last three lines: "The preacher holds him down where his feet won't reach the ground. And he waits for judgement to come. Yes he waits for the Lord's will to be done."
On YouTube there is a video of her at Paste Studios were she introduces this song by saying that it is about "a preacher that drowns a man he is baptizing."

Basically, he tells the guy that he needs to be baptised to be redeemed of his sins and then he drowns the guy the same way he drowned the little girls in the river. This is his 'judgement' and the 'Lord's will'.

the song was loosley inspired by flannery o'connor's 'the violent bear it away.' samantha is very into southern gothic literature and wrote this after a summer of reading a lot of o'connor.
