honestly not a big fan of (many) country songs, but THIS song is by far one of the greatest (country/pop) songs ever written. It reminds me of when I was a kid and me and my wife were just going out. Man, breakups are hard. We eventually got married, but being out without your woman missing her is the most difficult thing a man can try to pretend not to be doing. And somehow, to me anyway, the moon brings a sort of lonesome comfort when you're hurtin'. Beautiful lyrics. I know, sounds gay but hey, I'm a musician. I feel this shit.
It's not referring to the real moon, it's referring to a neon moon, which just further paints the picture of how desolate he is at that moment, that his only comfort is from something so artificial and sad. He has nothing. All he has is some neon sign in a bar to give him solace. It just makes the song all the more painful.

I agree with everything else you said. I don't like many country songs, but I just heard this one today, and it brought me to my knees in tears.

Needless to say I feel this shit...
Needless to say I feel this shit right along with you man.
