Blood In Your Mouth Lyrics

I definitely connected the "if you bury me" and "they say our feet were meant for dirt" lines. So, it simply means being buried (I'm sure it's symbolic). The narrator seems to be reluctant to go to the grave ("if you bury me, I'll bury you, dogs might come bury us, too"). I think the dogs represent hell hounds--since it's obvious where those take you, I think it's apparent why the narrator doesn't want to die. "Lions as birds" seems to refer to a griffin. The Church has latched onto the griffin in the past as a symbol of its views on marriage (due to the griffin lore depicting it as a monogamous, mate-for-life type of creature). Also, the griffin can represent Jesus Christ.

Given all this religious imagery, I can't help but view this song as depicting the struggle of wayward souls. The final line "Now there's blood in our mouths," makes me think that they lost the struggle. After all, who else's blood would be in your mouth besides your own? Seems like kind of a damning line.
