Ok my theory is,and don't take this word for word but,this is a song about infidelity and knowing that the whole affair is meaningless.there is also a hinting of if this affair one of them will have to be silenced hence the first stanza, but there is also a sense that regardless of knowing this will not last forever and the days are numbered they will keep on doing what they are doing and accept their fate
