Lyric discussion by k2zepprider

This song to me is mtb's radical view on america's political use of social institutions, specifically religion, to carry out their dominant ideology in society. It begins by stating the god represented through traditional American religions doesnt exist, "there are no ghosts ... and there are no angels" and that god is simply a tool used by the government "the man in the blue suit" to carry out their wishes. They explain religion sold out, "the congregation's been sold off" to the man. They argue to stop worrying about tomorrow, as religion thus implies us to do, and look whats happening right now, "What to do about tomorrow ... whatcha gonna do about today man?" The song summarizes its theory by explaining were all blinded by this institution while political power is taking advantage of us without us knowing.

Not tryin to piss anyone off, but i really think thats what they were gettin at. anyways, thats why mtb singin about girls, drinkin, and cigarettes was a lot cooler than gettin all political and lame.

to add one last thought: consider the metaphor between a lotus and the song meaning:

lotus [loh-tuhs] –noun, plural -tus⋅es.
