Actually, the song isn't just about Blanche DuBois because the sound bites are not just from Streetcar, but also from CasaBlanca. ("I never thought I'd see you again," "Who are you now and what were you before?" and "Where were you last night?" are all quotations from that movie.) Also, the quote included from Streetcar is when Blanche is really desperate and hits on the young mailboy/paper delivery boy...don't remember from highschool; not from her relationship with either of the two main characters (Stanley and Stella), so that makes the song even more removed from being exclusively about Blanche.

As far as what this kind of evokes for me is the idea of the fairy-tale/black&white/old-fashioned romance ideas that are all a little bit twisted and sad. Even the infamous characters in those beautiful movies have been immortalized because of their pain, not because of the simplicity and happy endings. Regardless, the song still makes me want to watch those movies and live in them!
