"Damn, You, Walt, Freakin', Whitman!!" lol, just had to quote the Simpsons after that last comment. I want to thank everyone for posting these answers, I've been listening to this song for a long time. I can't believe that this and "10,000 M-F'ers" are not on any of his "real" cds. People need to hear this stuff!! I used Jason's words as inspiration when deciding to take my life in a new direction, when he says, "Go make your life, not a living."

Well I do believe I understand this song now. I read The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran and "God Rests In Reason" IS this book. The verses are often word for word taken from the text. There's a chapter about reason and passion that says this: "Among the hills, when you sit in the cool shade of the white poplars, sharing the peace and serenity of distant fields and meadows--then let your heart say in silence, 'God rests in reason.'
