I agree with absurd87. To me, this is ason about depression, love and drugs. He and his girlfriend are both junkies, they've just got their fix, and now he's watching her as she sleeps. The colours and people screaming are hallucinations caused by the drugs. And as he lays there, he thinks about how much he loves her, and how much he wants to overcome his depression because of her, but it's just not enough.
"Still I see monsters" - the depression is continual, regardless of how much he tries to defeat it.
