You think and hope the feelings are gone because of all the shit and the pain they've put you through. This person might not necessarily enjoy the pain they inflict upon you, maybe they're just oblivious to it, but regardless it's still painful. So you hope and pretend these unrequited emotions are gone, but something happens that makes you realize those feelings have not left you, which only increases your pain...
