Lyric discussion by heygirl

I think the picture of "Jesus and his friends" is actually "the last supper". It symbolizes betrayal and abandonment, so this represents the betrayal between his parents.

"taking drugs and making love at far too young an age" seems to correspond to the drug abusing problem and infidelity of his parents.

But I don't understand the meaning of "work the floor"... can anyone explain its meaning?

@heygirl You usually "work the floor" as the host of a party – making sure that everyone is introduced, has plenty of food and drink and is just generally comfortable and having a good time. I think in comparing himself to the host of a party, he's saying that it's left to him to try to patch up the weird new family dynamics that come with a divorce. Everything is different now and he's trying to make the most of it ("...both my Christmasses and my birthday cakes").

@heygirl it means talking to, and flirting with, every attractive girl that looks at him with the intent to pick them up and connect.
