But... What? No comments for one of the best SFK songs? I think this song's pretty self explanitory... Not quite, but more so than most of theirs. "slowdancing with some one who is a thousand miles away" This could be taken literally or metaphorically - slowdancing could be just what it seems, but it's probably not. Maybe just close, intimate, but with some one who isn't at all there. This song almost represents slowdancing as a twisted contest, trying to see who'll crack first. The chorus explains itself - she feels like everyone is watching her, even when they may well not be. It's that feeling of being so self concious that it feels as though every one in the room is looking at you. Slowdancing In a minefield where everybody knows your name And every familiar face just makes her lonely Distance and the weeks gone by Not only some of my favourite lines ever, but also the verse that sums up the song. If you make a mistake, miss a single step, everything could be blown to pieces. And everytime she sees another fairweather friends it tears her to shreds, because everything has changed and they could never know her. The rest is almost a conclusion for the song - you'll be the talk of the town. Her paranoia and self conciousness makes her feel as though she is the talk of the town, as though everyone's watching her.

Another theory on this song is that the girl has done something like tried to kill herself, or been through a horrible break up that everyone knows about. That would mean that her paranoia is almost justified - they're watching her because they know what's happened. And though she tries to piece her life together, she can't do it under pressure and the watchful eyes of all who know her.

There's my 2 cents :)
