I love this album. In my opinion, the entire album is incredible, not a single song i would skip. Definitely a top 10 for me. I think people get too caught up in that it was different than his other work, and that it didn't sell well, and can let that cloud their opinion of whether it is a great album or not.
To me i think that this song could be about something like a breakup or a relationship falling apart, but i don't think that is looking deep enough into it. I have a strong feeling it is about something more meaningful, i just have no idea what.
How about Eve breaking his heart by being deceived by the fruit she brought and giving it to him? Which we don't know the whole story, he could have been deceived by her deceptions or knew and thought nothing would be of consequence since she already ate.
