I don't know if it's 'lies' or 'lines' and I think it might be 'black hands' like her hands are dirty? Anyways this song is amazing, so catchy. I think it's about a girl and a guy who obviously like each other and obviously should be together, but neither of them wants to put in the effort, so they are kind of at a standstill. The relationship has gotten harder to maintain and they wish it was easy like it used to be.
I love the, "the door was always open, but never quite nearly enough to let me in".
I never thought of it that way...maybe cause when i first heard this song it made me think of my mom and me.

"You were running out of lies to keep me under
Afraid of your back hands
So to speak, you had me shaking at the knees"

She put me with my g-ma and always told me it was because she needed to get back on her feet but really she was doing meth and as i got older she ran out of lies to tell me...and now shes afraid of all that comming up and...

Then i try to see this part from my moms POV
"No, I dont know the way out of this mess
And if you would've seen me at my best
Would it have changed anything at all?"
Like maybe if i had seen her at her best things might have bee diffrent.
Then this is both of us
"Remember when we never had to remember when"
I wish i didn't have to remember when....i love you mommy...
i agree with signedbyfate, this is obviously a mother-son thing (that's how i perceive it), but i think it's not about meth, but abuse? (geez, idk why, but i keep finding all these songs about abuse... ().() anyways, i think the book series (a trilogy) A Child Called 'It' would go excellently with the meaning of this song... plus its a great read and i seriously recommend them. bye for now!
