yeah i wasn't sure about the thirteenth finger either. the only thing i could think of is picturing it like a clock. the "thirteenth finger" could be the clock striking past midnight, not necessarily 1 am but some time that's not really existent. Makes me think of him drinking whiskey on a dark late night and a big grandfather clock. It gives a real dark feeling. I think I read a reference like that in a poem once but i can't remember.
