To me this song is about not being a point in your life that you like. You're stuck, alone, and you know where you want to be and what you want to do, but do you know how to get there, and if you're even supposed to get there? That's why he says "I saw myself, and it wasn't quite right."
And regardless, you think of what you want to become, but you're still not sure. "Slippin' out, slippin' in and out of dreams."
