the song to me is... like you said "i knew you wanted to jump in the pool" but they didn't and now they've missed their chance... "I push out, I breath in, and still us turning away" (they tried but failed) "don't look back, don't pretend, we'll never take control again" (no point pretending that they could have done it)... to me it's about a relationship... it didn't work out, she wanted it to work out (hence wanting to jump in the pool) but they both knew that it wouldn't so there's no point pretending that it would have.
