This song is heartbreaking.... It's so sweet, especially the "if you can't rely on me that makes me half the man that I'd like to be" and THEN he says "And I'll try to stick around"! Not so sweet.... It's the word 'try' really, as if he isn't certain he'll be able to be there forever. I think that maybe he's going to 'settle down' with her- even though his heart is restless and he's not certain who he is, "I'd walk on broken glass just to hold onto some sense of my own certainty".
The end is especially poignant- I think that represents their relationship becoming strained as time passes- and both of them knowing 'settling down' with a house and a dog didn't solve their problems.
However- a beautiful, lyrically captivating song that I just cannot stop listening to....just my thoughts!! :) :)
