For the beginning of the song I’m reminded of a quote from House; “That’s what life is. It's a series of rooms and who we get stuck in those rooms with adds up to what our lives are.” Being “on the roof of a prison” as it’s put, it’s just a place, and what are you going to make of the situation of being on that roof? How about lie beneath the stars or watch a thousand passing cars with the one you’re in love with at that moment? Who cares what you’re doing, you’re both doing it together and making the most of it.
I don’t think its necessarily a song where he’s been hurt as it is more of an idea of being so high on love, or in this case set on fire. “Set on fire” insinuates warmth. Love is warmth.
As for any other lines that normally sound like they’re talking about something bad (ex: I can’t seem to find hope in this situation, love) I think it just adds to the idea of being so high on love and not having a way out of it. You can’t help who you love, and can’t really get out of that predicament.
The chorus is obvious. You’d give anything up for the person you love. Even if it meant dying.
