The "hole in my neighbourhood" refers to the Temple bar in Manchester. I've been there a few times myself. It used to be an underground toilet.. it's tiny. It got converted into a bar. http://www.thisiswesternmorningnews.co.uk/features/Mercury-men-slip-shadows/article-322752-detail/article.html
