This is such a great song. What I get from it is that he has done things that will hurt his partner and he knows that he doesn't deserve her kindness, but he can't bare to think what he would do if she left him so he doesn't tell her what he's done. He knows he's going to have to end it because he can't let her stay with him after what he's done. He thinks of himself selfish for taking advantage of her kindness because he knows he did her wrong. She does so much for him and he hopes that someday she can be with someone who treats her like she treats him.
