Re-invent The Wheel

I see this as a parody of all those pop song lyrics consisting of one cliché after another.

And perhaps also, with the "I want our love to be a cliché" line, a joky look at the desire (spelled out in lots of popular songs) for the 'ideal' but totally unoriginal, stereotypical relationship.
