Body Talk Lyrics

This is my absolute favorite song in the world. I'm not sure if it's the instrumentals- how melodic and original they are, or the vocals- just his amazing voice in general, or the lyrics- which are beautiful and expressive in very non-cliche ways, but I'm thinking it's a mix of all three.

Here's my analysis of the song:

You put on your makeup just right For something, and I guess That you accidentally fell into that dress.

-I agree with jbandy in that he is obviously stating how beautiful she is, but I don't think it is necessarily for a dance. It could just be for a date, or even an average day, which in my opinion makes the statement even sweeter.

You'll show up on every radar-screen tonight And my baby, with the echo strength And rejection circuitry,

-Everybody will be aware of her beauty, but she won't let the others' attention take away from her feelings for him.

So gracefully unaware that she Is the brightest boy this girl has ever seen.

-Self-explanatory, and one of the most simple, but creative ways I've ever heard that feeling of "you're the best person I've ever known, etc" put into words.

She explained to me her whole story, How she was stole in the desert by the hands of forty theives And then released, 'cause even theives believe That if you find love, you've gotta set it free.

-For whatever reason, every time I listen to this song, I've always pictured that stanza literally, which in retrospect seems really stupid. SO after reading these comments, I agree with jbandy about how she's been with other guys before who "stole" her love wrongfully, but they let her go on with life when they realized what they were doing...or something like that.

Honestly, I'm not so sure that she Thinks I'm being the man that I deserve to be.

-He's in doubt of her feelings for him.

So gracefully unaware that he Is the brightest boy this girl has ever seen.

-Possibly my favorite lyrics of all time- this is exactly how I feel about the man I'm with now. And though jbandy got the "she loves him" statement right, I think this couplet of lyrics is said from the girl's point of view rather than the main speaker in the song. Sort of like an aside to the listener, that the main speaker is, well, gracefully unaware that he is the brightest boy that she has ever seen.
