Cover art for Backstreet Girl lyrics by Social Distortion

Hello Poprocksncoke1212;

In answer to your question "Is the original version of this song any good?", I would reply that I really think so. The lyrics above may match the version represented, which I haven't heard; but they are not, in fact, authentic to the way the song was written. Check another lyric site for the original Rolling Stones lyrcs.

The first time I heard Backstreet Girl (many years ago), I had asked a local musician at a nearby pub to play some Stones, and he whipped this one out, solo acoustic.

I was blown away (he REALLY did it justice); at that juncture, I had no idea the Stones did that sort of thing. You can find it on their album "Flowers". Also check out "I'm Just Sitting On A Fence". Love that one...so understated, in a Stonsey way of course.

As for my take on this song, It's pretty clear that ol' Mick wanted to have his cake and eat it too... I suppose Bianca ("Miss You"? Oh really?), not to mention Jerry Hall (what sort of a boob would cheat on a super-model?) got fed up with that sort of behaviour.

I once new a fellow, a real cad, who spoke of having a "main squeeze", as well as a few "auxilliary squeezes" on the side, un-beknownst to the main course, natch... needless to say, she got wind of his charlatanism and dropped him like the sack of poop he was (you see, he had led her to believe she was the only one, and she had believed the lying snake).

But with this song, at least Mick is being up-front about his intentions, so if the girl is willing to play second- or third-fiddle, that's on her...
