I think this is about entering a new stage in one's life, possibly spiritually. A neophyte is a novice or beginner, and in the Christian faith the term refers to a new convert. I'm not sure if it was intentional or not but one of the acoustic guitars is playing the leitmotif from Edvard Grieg's Morning Mood, a theme often utilized in film and television when a character is waking up. There's also the mention of spring, the season in which life begins anew. I get the feeling the singer had been going through a rough period before but now he has a fresh, albeit stoic, outlook on life, This song has some of the most bittersweet music I've heard, particularly in the coda. I like the Nude Records version because that section lasts longer and the electric piano seems to have a little more grit.
