i can't beleive there aren't more comments on this song! its my all time favourite song, its just so beautiful and the music and lyrics go together so well. for anyone who hasn't watched evita, its about eva peron, wife of president Juan peron & the first lady of argentina. She was born into the working classes, and made her way up, through the jobs of radio host, actress and eventually became more political and got involved with juan peron, married him and did a lot for the country. a considerable amount of argentine people mostly working class took her into their hearts as a saint and an idol, but other people hated her, (and juan)for being too working class and people beleived she often had alterior motives for doing the work she did. it was all very political and i can't fully understand it, so sorry if what i'm saying is wrong. eva peron died at 33 of cancer, the film & musical is sort of loosley based on her life, but i think it features a lot of things that were only rumoured by the anti-peronists but basically this song is her making a speech to the people of argentina, when she's at her peak in her life and career, her husband has just become president and she's telling the people she loves them and that she's still one of them deep down, though life has changed her, so they shouldn't cry for her. Evita is my favourite film ever. like i said, sorry if i said anything wrong on here but its what i know from the film and what i've heard, so please forgive me :) i'm not argentinian and i don't take history so i don't know much about what was actually going on at this time in argentina
