Through the tattered clothes meaning that she or whatever she represents was seen by others as to be worn or tattered but he saw through it. In other words the earth in a sense, tattered and destroyed at parts but sees this undeniable beauty and hope in it.
She was his queen as in he couldn't rule without her, or couldn't be without her, she was a queen meaning despite his feelings she was it by itself.
In dreams he wanders the dark in search of her light
the dreams are either the dreams at night or the dream of our perception on life. And he wanders the dark, so dark is the absence of light meaning, he's wandering this hopeless tattered land of dreams or illusions, in search of this hope this overflowing beauty, that makes so he is capable of RULING. it's unbelievable how so few of words carry so much meaning. Sure it's off of an idea of a book but it means so much more.
