A more poetic rather than literal translation (now it rhymes in English)! I kept the flavour of the song and about 85-95% of the lyrics are 'as is':
Song of the Lonely Maiden (Poetic Translation)
Gently she embraced her toy Then smashed it on the floor She was longing for something And didn´t know what for
So alone and fair And so blonde her hair And her lips as red as wine And who so ever drank from them Could never smile again
But someone said to her one spring: “Let me ease your pain for you” A thousand roses he sent her But she broke his heart in two
So alone and fair And so blonde her hair And her lips as red as wine Yes, how could someone kiss like that And live her life of pain?
For the remainder of her life An unsung melody Saint Peter let her live her fate For two eternities
So alone and fair And so blonde her hair And her heart as dead as stone He called to her : “Poor child, come, No more you'll be alone”
