To me, it's all about hiding the pain. Hiding what you're going through. It's about saying 'la dee da I'm happy because I'm a christian' when really, you're in so much pain, even though you are a christian.
I see a lot of me in this song. I hate showing people I'm going through something rough. Because I think it'll tell others that being a christian doesn't help anything. So, my mind says 'I need to tell the world I'm happy even though I'm not because they might not come to Christ if I tell them I'm not happy'
the part that gets me the most is 'traded in the altar for a stage' We've let ourselves stop being transparent so that we can pretend everything's okay. We've let ourselves stop outwardly showing we're going to God, and instead, outwardly lie and say everything's fine. To truly reach a broken world, we need to show them what God can do with broken people.
