m333333, I think he's perfectly alright in the head. He just desires for God so much that he goes insane... in a good way. It's really the whole struggle between a life for God or a life of sin. Just like Paul in the book of Romans:
"5I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me."
That sounds pretty confusing and crazy, but if that's the definition of insane, then I also am insane. It's once again the struggle between following God and being of the world.
