It seems to me that she suggested the break, and it allowed her to see how much the other person really meant to her. And she's sorry for pushing him away. Sorry for thinking she could go on without him. But the time apart allowed him to see that he COULD go on without her. He's been thinking that she doesn't want him, or need him. He thinks that if she could just leave like that, she won't miss him. She wants him back, but he's shutting her out because he doesn't want to be hurt again.
