i agree that they both die. the only thing i beg to differ on is the line "She turned the baby over, her eyes were still blue" On the contrary I think the intent was to say her eyes were "steel blue" which is a very beautiful shade of blue. if you have ever seen anyone with this eye color it is absolutely enchanting.
