I know!! It's my favorite too.. I'm really surprised by the lack of comments.... I'm not exactly sure what it means, but here's my interpretation:
It's about struggling in a relationship because the two people want to stay together, but they're not keeping promises....

Don't fill an empty space with the same conversation"
Turning blue... goes with the saying, "don't hold your breath." Someone stood someone up, or maybe didn't call when they said they would, came late...

It just slipped through our fingers
But we won't let go"
'holding so tight' makes me think that they're so dependent on the person for making them feel good, cause they've been with them that long, but when the person can't be there for them for whatever reason 'it slipped through our fingers' the person gets really down and can't handle himself. But he still wants the relationship to last. 'we won't let go.'
