Too many repetitions of the word "pretentious" here. :/
I think "melodramatic" fits better... cause the song is about a 15 year old... and most 15 year olds are melodramatic [hey, they have to be- that's how you learn by the time you're 'grown-up' what's worth your emotional effort and what's not.]
I can't help but picture Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice during the bridge... ha... reminds me of the scene where she writes her "suicide letter". But she was kinda cute, so why wouldn't the narrator of the song find someone like that kinda cute too?
And WHOOOAaaa... that comment about the grandfather and cancer up there... wow. If you think this is a whiny song, please don't listen to most radio songs. And also don't forget it's just a song.
