In their autobiography Walk This Way, its interesting to note that Joe Perry says they were always waiting on Steven to write the ballads...he was so messed up on drugs at this time in their career it ( the book) says he mostly threw these ballads together in like 10 minutes! Amazing...how good they are during that time!
Don't be naive. Believe it or not, these guys wrote very little. Their producer along with uncredited writers and performers provided the bulk of the material for this band. Record executives are in the business of making money. There're not in the business of waiting drug addicts to magically come up with material.
