I don't know why, but this is one of my favorite songs of his. It does seem to be full of heartbreak and conflict. I think it's interesting that it seems to be sung/written using 3rd person narrative yet it is obviously happening to the singer/narrator. I love the single opening note on what sounds to me like a triangle too. "Haunting" is an apt description.
